Martinez Sturgeon Rally Past Wasco Reserve 17-4

July 21 2022 The Martinez Sturgeon defeated the Wasco Reserve 17-4 after overcoming an early four-run deficit. Wasco scored all four of its runs in the first inning, but Martinez answered with two runs in the bottom half and then scored in every inning from the second through the eighth. The Sturgeon broke the game open with five runs in the fifth and added four more in the eighth.

Martinez finished with 13 hits and was led by Nick Diaz and Darwin Tavarez. Diaz went 2-for-4 with a home run, three runs and three RBI, while Tavarez went 3-for-5 with a home run, three runs and three RBI. Albert Dominguez, Juan Garcia, James Portillo and Tomas Moreno added two hits apiece. Wasco collected eight hits, including three each from Ben Osborne and Phillip Rowland. Osborne drove in two runs, while Rowland had one RBI and three doubles.

Nathaniel Brezner-Mendoza earned the win for Martinez with five scoreless innings, allowing five hits and three walks while striking out two. Delmus Russ added two scoreless innings with two strikeouts, and Ellis Stevens struck out three in a perfect ninth. Wasco starter Ryan Osborne took the loss after allowing 11 runs on nine hits in six innings, with six earned runs, six walks and three strikeouts. Martinez also played error-free defense, while Wasco committed five errors.
